Morozko Sound Report

Our new Morozko Ice Baths are quieter than models built prior to 2024.

The purpose of this study was to measure the sound intensity of the mechanical components of Morozko ice baths built to 2024 specifications.

Methods

For this anaylsis, we measured sound intensity in decibels (dB) at four distances from the mechanical compartment of a 2024-spec Morozko Ice Bath.

dBs were measured at 0ft, 3ft (~1m), 6ft (~2m), and 7.5ft from the new MP72 Morozko Ice Bath in each of three different run conditions:

  1. Filtration only.

  2. Compressor only.

  3. Filtration & Compressor running concurrently.

Interpreting Decibel Measurements

The decibel scale is named for Alexander Graham Bell.  0 dB is the smallest audible sound.  The scale is logarithmic rather than linear.  That means that a 20 dB sound is ten times more powerful than 10dB, and a 30 dB is ten times more powerful than 20 dB.

The intensity of sound diminishes with distance from the source.  Taking measuring distance between 1-10 feet is best representative of the experience of most users.

Results

The M72 Morozko Ice Bath measured 57 dB at a distance of 6 ft. For perspective, 50dB is about the sound of a conversation or a running refrigerator.  60 dB is roughly the sound of a dishwasher or an electric toothbrush.
